Ancient Native American DNA has been discovered in the Polynesians of Easter Island (Rapa Nui). The interbreeding appears to have occurred around the year 1150 AD. The Native Americans involved were the Zenu people, who farmed in what is now the region of Colombia. Researchers believe that the Polynesians crossed the Pacific and reached South America, then returned to the Marquesas Islands.
