I picked up this book to get over the shock of failing to properly explain the OSI model in an interview at a certain cloud company. Since I mostly do application development, I had neglected infrastructure. But the world we stand on is, in effect, built on top of a massive IT infrastructure. So there is no need to belabor its importance. Especially in today’s cloud era, even an app developer can’t develop without knowing networking.

This book explains the OSI model layer by layer, starting from the lower layers. Its conversational style makes it easy and simple to understand. The diagrams and illustrations are thorough as well. It may well be the clearest of all the IT technical books I’ve read over the past decade or so. I understand that in Japan there are quite a few attempts to explain IT in an easy way. I hope the Korean publishing market for developers grows soon so that we get more good translated books.
