The Garakgukgi itself is heavily embellished and was written about a thousand years after the founding of Gaya, making it of limited value as a historical source. If it has any value at all, it is perhaps as a clue to the culture of around AD 1000, when the Garakgukgi was written. The merchant who brought Heo Hwang-ok and then departed, the Gujiga, which may have been a ritual song of seafaring people, and Suro, Talhae, and Heo Hwang-ok, who may have belonged to outside groups.
